Youth Voice

Every young person with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) has a voice that matters, and we want to make sure their voices are heard – not just by us, but by the communities, schools, and services that support them.

About our Youth Voice services

Our Youth Voice services bring young people with SEND together to share their views, shape decisions, and create change in their communities. From local projects to national agendas, we provide opportunities for young people to speak up about what’s important to them and influence the services and support they use.

Whether it’s shaping local services, influencing national conversations, or leading projects in their own communities, our Youth Voice services are all about putting young people at the heart of decision-making.

Making Participation Work

The Making Participation Work programme, funded by the Department for Education and delivered by Kids and the Council for Disabled Children, creates opportunities for young people with SEND to have their voices heard locally and nationally.

The Collective

The Collective unites young people with SEND and participation groups to share their views, connect with decision-makers like the Department for Education, and work together on national issues through regular online sessions and an annual get-together.

Kids Advisory Panel

The Kids Advisory Panel brings together young people with SEND to guide Kids’ strategic direction, ensuring young people’s voices help shape future plans, policies, and campaigns.

Resources

We have a great range of resources for professionals and practitioners who work with young people with SEND.

“We know what works, we are competent, we know the stakes and the impact on our lives. We deserve a seat at the table. When you don’t consult with children, you don’t get an accurate representation of the issues and our reality.”
