About James
James is an independent consultant working with local authorities and charities across England. He is the founder of Resolution Ready, which he set up in 2025 after more than 25 years in children and family services. His career has spanned children’s rights, safeguarding, early help and quality assurance, beginning in the voluntary sector at national level before progressing through senior roles in local government.
Much of James’s work involves leading statutory investigations and chairing review panels under the Children Act 1989, through which children, young people and families can challenge decisions made by children’s social care. He has completed over 75 investigations. He brings a careful, evidence-based approach and a commitment to making sure children and families are heard when things have gone wrong.
Alongside this, James advises charity boards and senior leaders on governance, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance. He writes and speaks regularly on safeguarding and how services learn from complaints and family experience to become safer and more humane. James is a Chartered Manager and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
James is also dad to a child with a physical disability who is neurodiverse. This drives his commitment to making sure children and families are properly supported, and he is proud to be joining Kids.
