The team offer evidenced based training courses for parents needing some further information or different strategies to support their child/young person. We also support with guidance, advice and information on local services and signposting to relevant outside agencies.

The following are the current courses offered:

NAS Teen life course

This programme is for parents /carers of young people aged 10-16 years old on the autistic spectrum and an accompanying professional if appropriate. 

These are run over 6 x 2½ hour weekly sessions. 

What is covered in this programme:

  • Understanding Autism;
  • Looking at self-esteem;
  • Understanding stress and anxiety;
  • Understanding the diagnosis.

Stepping Stones Course

Is part of the Triple-P – Positive Parenting Programme and is for parents/carers of children aged 2-16 years with a disability or additional needs.    

The course comprises of 7 x 2 hour weekly sessions,

What is covered on Stepping Stones Triple P:

  • Developing a close relationship with your child;
  • Taking care of yourself as a parent by improving your coping skills and reducing parental stress;
  • Managing behaviour problems and developmental issues common amongst children with a disability and/or additional skills;
  • Teaching your child new skills and behaviours;
  • Using assertive discipline.

Balancing Act Workshopwork

These workshops are for Parents/carers of a child with a disability or complex health needs with multiple appointments/ services involved or who have very little support networks who have a child in the family aged between 5 years old and 16 years old

These workshops run for 2 x 2 ½ weekly sessions

What is this training about?

This workshop is all about empowering parent carers and building parental resilience. As the name suggest it looks at the number of roles that a parent/carer holds and how they juggle that amongst the roles of daily living, maintaining relationships, working and supporting other dependants.   

The workshop encourages parent/carers to reflect on things that are important and looks at identifying a personal action plan to support them to find solutions to their difficulties.

Early Support ASD and Sensory Processing Awareness Workshop

A workshop for parents/carers of children and young people with Social Communication and Sensory Processing Difficulties and the professionals offering support.

These workshop run for 2 x 2 hour weekly sessions

What is covered on this workshop:

  • Information about Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Processing differences;
  • A workshop for parents/carers of children and young people with Social Communication and Sensory Processing Difficulties and the professionals offering support.

All the training provided is delivered across the City of Hull for Parent/ Carers living in the city boundary area.

Term time only courses throughout the day and evening.
