KIDS Mediation supported and gave insight to a research project by the University of Essex School of Law, which recently published the report A Place at the Table.

The project mainly focused on young people aged 16-25 in England’s involvement in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) mediation and aims to improve understanding of the way that administrative justice is experienced through children and young people’s eyes. The report explored:

· Individual participation of SEND in dispute resolution

· Types of participation and barriers

· Mental capacity and how it is understood in the SEND dispute resolution context

· The role of information to young people about their rights and options for resolving disputes

Katherine Shaw, National Operations Director, said:

"We are so pleased to have been able to contribute to this important research project. Mediation is a valuable resource for our families and it’s great to be able to see valuable research carried out in this area."
