KIDS is extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Unwin as its new Chairman.

Stephen said: “I’m honoured and delighted to be appointed Chair of KIDS following Hilary Sears’ remarkable tenure. As the father of a severely disabled young man who has benefitted from the brilliant work that KIDS does, I know what a fantastic contribution it makes. KIDS is a first class charity which delivers a first class service.  Under Caroline Stevens’ inspired leadership as Chief Executive, it will continue to make a real difference to the lives of disabled children and young people and their families.

Stephen Unwin founded English Touring Theatre in 1993 and opened the Rose Theatre in Kingston in 2008. He has been an Artistic Director and Chief Executive for 21 years.  He is a hugely experienced theatre and opera director, has written eight books and taught in universities and colleges in Britain and the United States.  He was a Community Governor at Whitefield Schools and Centre, the largest special school in Europe, and is a campaigner for the rights and opportunities of people with learning disabilities.

Welcoming Stephen, Caroline Stevens said, “We are thrilled that Stephen has joined KIDS to lead our Board and we welcome the enthusiasm and deep insight into our work that he brings.”
