A recent Ofsted inspection of our Bracknell short breaks rated our service as outstanding and had very positive feedback about the staff and the running of scheme. The service provides weekend residential activity holidays throughout the year for young disabled children and the inspector concluded that “the actions of the residential holiday scheme contribute to significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences for children and young people.”

Here are a few key finding from the inspection:

Effectiveness of leaders and managers

  • Leaders, managers and staff place paramount importance on meeting the individual needs of young people
  • Staff have the confidence and knowledge to provide young people with consistently high levels of care, support and guidance
  • The registered manager has over 35 years of experience working with children and is an inspirational figure who is enormously popular with young people and staff

How well children and young people are helped and protected

  • The holiday scheme provides an invaluable source of support for young people and their families. This helps to prevent family breakdown and ensures stability for young people
  • Staff work in close partnership with each other and the activity centre staff to provide one-to-one support when appropriate
  • Young people benefit from highly effective and individualised goal setting such as improving personal hygiene or preparing basic meals

Feedback from parents and young people

  • One parent described the scheme as offering ‘everyone a break and crucial respite’
  • ‘It’s hard to put into words what the holiday scheme does for him. Being autistic with learning delays can be a very lonely life. The holiday scheme gives him an excellent chance to hang out with others and to be ‘‘normal’’.’
  • Young people clearly enjoy their holiday weekends, with many of them describing it as the ‘highlight’ of their year

Thank you to all the staff that work tirelessy to ensure that the playschemes are positive and enjoyable experience for every young person that attends.
