Joan has been with KIDS since January 2014, she started as an agency Worker at Russell House and progressed and became a Registered Manger in 2019.

How KIDS supported my career progression

"I enjoyed working with the young people and the team at Russell House and it was very rewarding to see the young people having a great time and positive experiences. KIDS employed a registered manager at Russell House in July 2014 who was very experienced and wanted to take Russell House to the next level, hence in October 2014 when a Deputy Manager position became available, I decided that I would like to become a permanent member of staff and applied for this post.

I was successful and became deputy manager for KIDS - Russell House in October 2014. Since then it has been an upward journey. I was always supported and encouraged by my line manager and with this I gained a lot of experience and knowledge on running a residential home and also working for an organisation that is regulated by Ofsted. Due to the skills and knowledge gained when the registered manager was promoted within KIDS, I had the opportunity to become a Manager in 2018 and registered manager in July 2019.

Why I feel grateful to be a part of KIDS

I feel grateful to be a part of KIDS - a charity that champions the rights of disabled children young people and their families. KIDS set out to achieve its goals in ethical, honest ways with an elevated sense of purpose to improving lives.
I enjoy coming to work and feel appreciated, acknowledged and rewarded. Everyone communicates in a cards-on-the-table manner, solving difficulties in a positive way.”
