Wakefield Aiming High Grants and Family Activities
Wakefield Council will be funding Aiming High Grants and a Family Activities Scheme for parents caring for a disabled child. These will be administered by KIDS through Wakefield Early Support Advice Information and Liaison Service.
Aiming High GrantsThe Aiming High Grants are available for local voluntary providers and support groups to plan and provide opportunities to give carers’ breaks or to provide activities for disabled children and young people who reside in the Wakefield District.
Funds are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and the Aiming High Grants and Family Activities Scheme will only be available until March 2012.
The maximum grant (or sum of grants) awarded to any one provider or support group over the life of the scheme (April 2011 - March 2012) will be £3000. Grants cannot be awarded retrospectively and local providers/support groups are advised not to make any firm arrangements until advised of the outcome of the application.
Family Activities Scheme
Families can be offered grants to pay for an outing for all the family or to help pay for support to give them a short break. The money is available to families living in the Wakefield District, caring for a disabled child or children aged up to 18.
To be eligible for the grant you must either be in receipt of the high rate Care Component of DLA, or be receiving the middle rate Care Component and need additional support in three or more of the following areas:
- Personal care and supervision
- Communication
- Access to social activities
- Education
- Specialist equipment
- Medical or therapeutic treatment/management considered
Funds are limited and the Aiming High Grants and Family Activities Scheme will only be available until March 2012.
