Early Years Work
The Children's Centres programme set out by the government is the main way that parents and carers of children aged 0-5 access support, advice and practical services for their family.
KIDS in the West Midlands has been proactively involved in Children's Centres including early pilot projects since 1999. Currently KIDS, provide four different types of services in / to Children's Centres in Birmingham, Dudley and Sandwell:-
- Specialist support for disabled children and their families - KIDS has experienced staff deployed to a number of Children's Centre in Birmingham. The team provide practical, emotional and advisory support, a listening ear or signpost a family for further and additional information. We work in partnership with other colleagues and professionals who can provide a range of other services as required.
- Early Years Short Breaks Services - KIDS works with a number of Children's Centres across Birmingham to deliver a flexible Short Break (previously called respite) service supporting children with complex support needs.
- Toy Library - In Dudley KIDS run a number of Toy Libraries and works closely with Children's Centres in Dudley Borough. The toy libraries are designed to encourage children to play together and have fun whilst encouraging motor skills and communication development.
