Millennium Carers

Millennium Carers is a KIDS parent support group for parents of disabled children. We meet monthly at Millennium Health Centre, Weoley castle and it is open for all to attend.

There is always an opportunity for parents to share experiences with others in similar situations, have a coffee and gain useful information about important disability issues.

We also invite speakers such as Childcare Info Bureau, Dietician's, MP's, Special Needs Fire Officer and sometimes even have pamper sessions!

During the school holidays we try and organise family trips to favourite places and this provides all families an opportunity to take their children out whilst knowing there are staff and other parents around to help when needed.

We have also just started a Youth Group called Millebrook Oak for young people with disabilities and they have already completed an animation workshop, trip to blackwell adventure, bowling events, sessions with a sports coach and sometimes just a meal out to chill out with their friends.

Parent comments

"The trips that we are able to go on gives us mums and dads a way of getting to meet others who also have kids with special needs. In this we are able to swap stories, share information and most importantly i feel is that as there is a group of us we can relax a bit as its not just our own kids with problems"

"Its a great social way for the kids to get out in an controlled environment too and gives them a confidence boost as well as being educational. They can take their experiences back in to the classroom for social stories etc."
