Big Team Challenge Days

Firefly

In June 2009, having previously visited KIDS Chelsea Adventure Playground with a view to volunteer, a phenomenal team of 28 from PR company, Firefly Communications, walked across hot coals for KIDS at a Firewalk event they organised.  Complete with BBQ, band and lots and lots of cheering supporters, the team raised just over £6,000 meaning KIDS was finally able to buy an inclusive Bird's Nest Swing for all the disabled children and young people at Chelsea to enjoy.  KIDS is thrilled that the team at Firefly will now also be volunteering at the site later this year and we cannot say thank you enough for this fantastic fundraiser that has meant the outdoor facilities at Chelsea have come on leaps and bounds.

Lombard

Teams from Lombard have been loyal supporters of KIDS Adventure Play Hackney (KAPH) for a few years now and it has been their Big Team Challenge days that have led to massive developments at the playground.

Not only did Lombard challenge themselves by deep cleaning the Hydrotherapy Pool at KAPH but they also worked as a team to fundraise for it, raising over £1,500 which meant that KIDS was able to have it re-commissioned.

If this wasn’t enough, Lombard’s hard work fundraising meant that KIDS was able to buy a sit-down lawnmower for the site, helping play workers to keep the playground bright and fresh for the children and young people it supports.  Finally Lombard also installed an Under 5’s area for the younger siblings of KAPH’s children, extending the inclusive nature of the playground which is what KIDS is all about.

A huge thank you to everyone at Lombard for all their support of KIDS – the Hydrotherapy Pool is due to be opened and fully operational later this year and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Volunteer for KIDS

PPL

In November 2008, thanks to the kind and generous support of PPL, KIDS Chelsea Adventure Playground became home to a brand new kitchen complete with new units, flooring and equipment such as fully-functioning dishwasher, fridge-freezer and even a smoothie maker.  PPL enlisted the help of their contractors to spend a week installing the new kitchen while volunteers from the firm came along at the end of the week to put the finishing touches to the room.  Getting involved in the final painting, touching up and tiling of the kitchen helped employees see first hand how they were making a huge and very obvious difference to the site:

“I can’t express how much the kitchen has improved things at Chelsea.  Before PPL’s support, we used the kitchen as little as possible - with its broken units and flickering lights, it was just such an unpleasant place to be.  Now with all the brilliant new equipment we are able to make the kids healthy snacks and they are able to see it all going on.  It’s utterly fantastic.” Ali Hall, Chelsea Play Leader 2009

If this wasn't enough, PPL returned to this winning formula in July 2009, installing a similar brand new kitchen at KIDS Lady Allen Adventure Playground and sprucing up the whole site in time for the summer holiday play scheme to begin.  KIDS is incredibly grateful to PPL for all their hard work, commitment and support of KIDS - without their help, the children at Chelsea and Lady Allen would not have been able to get involved with all the cookery sessions and healthy eating projects that went on this summer!
