South East Stars


Individual volunteers are needed in KIDS South East region for various opportunities (listed below).  Volunteering with KIDS gives you the opportunity to learn skills, make new friends and make a huge difference to our pioneering work.

 

PLEASE NOTE - All volunteers will be required to provide references and are subjected to an enhanced CRB check.

Young Carers Project Volunteers

KIDS South East works with young people aged 7-18 years old whose lives are impacted by caring responsibilities, providing support, respite and the opportunity to be a child first:

 

Duties include

  • Supporting the young people within monthly aged related groups
  • Participating and assisting to facilitate on and off site activities
  • Providing transport for young people to access activities

Experience and Qualities

  • Ability to engage with young people in a non judgemental way
  • A sense of humour and fun
  • Able to show empathy and relate to issues that affect young people’s lives
  • Can drawn upon your own relevant experiences or have hands on experience of working with young people
  • Clean drivers licence (desirable) D1 / MIDAS (desirable)
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities
  • Understanding of Health and Safety

Hours and Location

Evenings and occasional weekends.

Minimum commitment one evening a month

Based at Fareham Family Centre

 


Volunteer Administration Assistant (Mondays & Fridays)

You will be joining our busy administration team at the Fareham Family Centre:

 

Duties include

  • Meeting and greeting visitors
  • Answering telephone calls
  • Post and emails
  • Updating records
  • Filing
  • General office duties

Experience and Qualities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable
  • Good telephone manner
  • The ability to work alone with little supervision
  • Friendly with a sense of humour
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities
  • Understanding of Health and Safety

Hours and Location

Monday – Friday
9am – 5pm

 

We require volunteers able to work a minimum of 4 hours per week either in the morning or afternoon

Based at the Fareham Family Centre

 

 

Volunteer Fundraising Assistant

Duties include

  • Counting and receipting donations
  • Answering telephone enquiries
  • Sending out fundraising packs
  • Researching fundraising opportunities
  • Representing KIDS at local events

Experience and Qualities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is desirable
  • Good telephone manner
  • Friendly, willing to learn and must have a sense of humour
  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities
  • Understanding of Health and Safety

Hours and Location

  • Monday – Friday
  • 9am – 5pm

Flexible working hours, may require the occasional weekend or evening.

Volunteer Box Collector

Collection boxes that can be found in pubs, shops and leisure centres in the local community help raise hundreds of pounds to support disabled children, young people and their families.

 

We urgently need new volunteer box collectors to place and empty boxes in your local community:

Duties include
• Placing and empty collection boxes
• Counting, receipting and banking donations
• Keeping up to date records
• Acting as a key local representative for KIDS in your community

Experience and Qualities
• Experience of counting money
• Excellent communication skills
• Self motivated and able to work alone with little supervision
• Computer skills with access to computer at home (desirable)
• Clean drivers licence and access to vehicle
• Understanding of Equal Opportunities
• Understanding of Health and Safety

Hours and Location
Home based with very flexible hours. We do ask for a commitment of one day per month.


Volunteer Support Worker (Short Break Services)
Short Breaks provides care for 0-21 year olds in their own home and within the community:

Duties include

  • Supporting both the young person and staff member
  • Visiting local attractions
  • Helping the young person to develop social skills

Experience and Qualities

  • No previous experience required
  • Patience, flexible, non-judgemental
  • Team player
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities
  • Understanding of Health and Safety

Hours and Location

Varies with a minimum commitment of two hours per week. Based at the Fareham Family Centre.

 

 

Volunteer Support Worker (Nursery)

To give support to children within a mainstream pre-school:

 

Duties include

 

  • To help and provide a stimulating and caring play environment
  • To strive to understand and meet the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the children
  • To abide by and enforce the rules of the pre-school setting
  • To maintain open and sensitive communication between pre-school team, the children's parents and the project co-ordinator
  • To maintain the family's right to confidentiality except in the case of child protection issues
  • To recognise the need for support and supervision
