Play England partnership

KIDS continues to work closely with Play England following the cessation of Play England’s contract with the previous government to support and challenge local authorities receiving funding under the National Play Strategy.

The work with Play England had a particular emphasis on promoting inclusive play and accessible design within universal provision, as well as ensuring that inclusive practice was embedded within the core knowledge and skills of the parts of local authorities responsible for developing play spaces.

Main strands of work undertaken by KIDS included:

•    Support and advice via email and telephone on how to include disabled children in mainstream play provision.

•    Input into Play England’s national and regional seminars, supporting play pathfinders and playbuilders

•    Development of good practice briefings and model documents

•    Research into development of inclusive play spaces and involvement of disabled children and their families

•    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on inclusive play.

All KIDS briefings are now available to download free from the KIDS website: www.kids.org.uk/briefings

The principles developed during the partnership with Play England have now been adopted by the Centre of Excellence which aims to continue this work.
