National Development Department

Welcome to KIDS’ National Development Department

KIDS national conferenceThe National Development Department has over 10 years experience of delivering a number of successful national projects with a significant focus on play and leisure as well as the participation and inclusion of disabled children and young people.

In April 2011, KIDS restructured the National Development Department to ensure an effective response to national government priorities while still retaining our values and ethos, focusing on our mission towards a society that includes all disabled children, young people and their families.

To achieve this, our national work has been developed into three functional strands that reflect emerging themes and will impact on the delivery of high quality inclusive provision.

These are:

  • Centre of Excellence delivering good practice advice and information to organisations working with disabled children and young people
  • Inclusion into practice working directly with young disabled people to ensure their inclusion in everyday life
  • Training and Consultancy working to deliver high quality face-to-face and online training as well as specialist consultancy work to practitioners and other professionals

The National Development Department is also responsible for delivering Making it Personal, a new, two-year project funded by the Department of Education which aims to provide support and advice to parents and carers of disabled children and young people and also to commissioners about issues around personalisation and personal budgets.

Over the past decade, the National Development Department has produced a number of Publications and Guidance and Useful resources to support people working with disabled children and young people.
