KIDS Direct Short Breaks launch video now online

31 Aug 2010

Earlier this year, around 20 families attended a launch event to mark the arrival of KIDS Direct Short Breaks in the newly commissioned area of Blackburn and Darwen. We are now excited to announce that a great short film about the day, alongside the wider accomplishments of the service, is available on our web site. The launch event provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievement and a chance for families with disabled children involved in KIDS services to meet each other and other local KIDS staff.

KIDS’ Direct Short Breaks service, set up in February 2009, enables parents to access a short break service online and recently celebrated its 1000th short break which took place in Blackburn earlier this year. The service links parents to fully trained (enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checked) workers who can deliver positive, inclusive experiences for disabled children and young people whilst offering their parents the opportunity to take a much needed break. KIDS now has the capacity to work with 35 children in the Blackburn and Darwen area at any one time, providing flexible short breaks that engage disabled children in exciting activities and give parents that extra helping hand and support.

The local launch event, held on the 27th March, was described as a “resounding success” by Emma Clarke, Director of KIDS Short Breaks, and families have been asking for more similar events in the future, which KIDS hopes to facilitate.

The new short film (featured below) captures the activities of the day and also highlights the work of the service - showing how KIDS Direct Short Breaks really does make a difference to disabled children and their families.
