Location: East HUB, Hertford and West HUB, Watford.

Temporary, fixed term until March 2018.

The role:

Independent Support is a national programme commissioned by the Department of Education through the Council for Disabled Children, to fund the voluntary, private and community sector to employ staff and volunteers to support parents and young people through the recent education reforms; particularly in relation to those transitioning from Statements of SEN to Education, Health and Care Plans and to support those newly entering the SEN assessment process.

Independent Support Practitioners
The role of the Independent Support Practitioners will be to provide help, information and support to any family or young person going through a statutory Education Health and Care needs assessment and those who are transitioning over to the new Education, Health and Care assessment and planning process. Full training and a comprehensive induction will be provided.

Should you have a relevant NVQ 3 qualification (or equivalent) and would relish the challenge of this new Independent Supporter role and be able to demonstrate:-

  • Knowledge of present provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities within the local area you will be working.
  • Experience of working within an environment relevant to special educational needs and disability.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate with schools, the local authority and partner agencies.
  • Experience of advising, empowering and supporting parents and /or young people.
