CAMPFIRE FILM SCREENING IN HACKNEY PLAYGROUND
KIDS Adventure Playground in Hackney is hosting a campfire film screening of award-winning documentary Project Wild Thing on August 5 to celebrate national Play Day.
KIDS Adventure Play Hackney is happy to confirm that film-maker David Bond will be joining the event for a Q&A after the screening. Adventurers of all ages are invited to get dirty building secret dens and creating a blazing bonfire to toast twig-dipped marshmallow treats and bonfire bread in the magical and natural wonderland of KIDS Adventure Play Hackney.
This event is part of a mass screening of Project Wild Thing organised by The Wild Network and the Free Time Consortium. To celebrate Playday, the national day for play in the UK, The film will be shown in 20 unique locations across England, from a surf competition in Newquay to a Community Centre in North Shields.
The Free Time Consortium, a group of 31 local and national play organisations led by Play England, has joined the Wild Network with 12,000 members to screen the film to encourage more children to play outside in nature.
Project Wild Thing film maker David Bond said:
“We filmed lots of Project Wild Thing in East London, and Hackney in particular. We met many children from the area and it was very clear that children desperately need and want green space close to their homes where they can feel wild outdoors. The benefits to their emotional and physical growth are huge. The work that KIDS Adventure Playground does in Hackney to make an oasis of green space available to children, including disabled children, is invaluable. The playground is a precious commodity in London, and we should treasure it!”
Released in October 2013 Project Wild Thing takes a funny and moving look at one of the most complex issues of the age – the increasingly-fragile link between children and playing outdoors. In a bid to get his daughter and son off the sofa and outdoors, filmmaker and father David Bond appoints himself marketing director for nature. He wants his brand – nature – to stand out from the crowd of brands competing for their attention. David wanted to understand why his children's childhood was so different from his, whether it mattered, and what he could do about it.
