Turning the Page is a writing competition that invites both disabled and non-disabled children and adults to share their experience of disability or supporting a disabled person. Together with our partner Irwin Mitchell – one of the UK’s largest and most respected law firms – we’d like to hear positive, inspirational stories of your experiences.
We’re looking for short stories and poems of up to 500 words. All levels of writing ability are welcome, so don’t worry if you haven’t written anything similar before. We’re interested in your personal understanding of disability – this might be life in school or the workplace as a disabled person, or that of a family member or friend.
Winners will be judged on individual merit and not necessarily their standard of writing technique.
There’s a chance to win a Kindle Fire and a £50 book voucher, so now is the time to start planning your entry!
Entries will be categorised into the following age groups:
Turning the Page is free to everyone.
There will be two prizes in each age group:
- First prize: a Kindle Fire and £50 book voucher
- Runner-up prize: a £25 book voucher
At the judges’ discretion, they may wish to award a commendation for any entry made.
The winning stories, plus a selection of other shortlisted finalists, will be included in a short book published by Irwin Mitchell and KIDS.
Simply submit your writing using the form here. You can also use Facebook to send us your work.
