Good practice case study

19 May 2014
KIDS' work in Hull is highlighted in one of a series of case studies showing how parents helped improve health services for disabled children.

Parent Carer Forums exist to work in partnership with service leads to improve services for disabled children and their families. The Forums are pan disability and any parent, or person with parental responsibility for a disabled child or young person can become a member of their local parent carer forum.

Family support charity, Contact a Family has been working for the past three years to support the involvement of Parent Carer Forums in commissioning and improving local health services for disabled children. Part of the work included writing up case studies of successful work, to share with others.

Their report shows how involving parent carers in the design and delivery of health services saves money and improves the quality of the service and includes a case study of the Hull Forum, facilitated by KIDS, successfully working with NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group and Healthwatch.
