KIDS Charity appeal on BBC Radio 4 - Donate now!

We are happy to announce that leading author David Mitchell presented KIDS BBC Radio 4 appeal on Sunday 13 March.

David Mitchell is the award-winning and bestselling author of Cloud Atlas and The Bone Clocks. Twice shortlisted for the Man Booker prize for fiction, Mitchell was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine in 2007.

David has a son with autism and shared some of his positive, and more challenging, experiences on our blog here.

Our BBC Radio 4 appeal first aired on Sunday 13 March at 7:26am and 9:26pm - you can listen to it online here. Find out why David Mitchell has supported us below.

“KIDS has really unlocked what Danny can do”

Danny, whose story you hear in the appeal, is 17 and has been going on Short Breaks for over 3 years. When he first started going on Short Breaks, Danny struggled with speaking and would get frustrated easily. Ruby who works with him said, “When I first met him, he wouldn’t look at me. Now he is a totally different person. He will shake my hand, ask questions and has the confidence to go out on his own with his buddies. He even supports the KIDS team when we organise group outings.”

Short Breaks help relieve the strain on families and reduce stress for parents. They give the disabled child an opportunity to get away from the family home, enjoy new experiences and meet new people. Last year, KIDS provided over 60,000 hours of Short Breaks to hard pressed families like Danny’s.
